Paternity test

The Paternity Test is a DNA test aimed at identifying paternity and/or the degree of kinship on a purely informative level.

DNA analysis for paternity testing is based on the detection of normal variations that are present at the level of many regions of the genetic material of each individual (polymorphism). For each individual, the simultaneous determination of these variations allows to derive a genetic profile. With the exception of monozygotic twins who are exactly alike, each individual’s genetic profile is practically unique, like fingerprints.

This characteristic underlies the methodology used to determine whether two people are genetically related.

The genetic profile of a child will consist of half the maternal genetic profile and half the paternal genetic profile.

Therefore, the presumed father to be considered biological father must possess half of the genetic profile present in the child.
